ABOUT CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF ADMINISTRATION (CIA)  

 The institute is a professional and examining body established in 1987 and chartered by Act No.103, published in the Federal Government of Nigeria Gazette No.76 Vol.79 of 31st December 1992. Also visit www.nigeria-law.org/LFN 1992. The Act empowers the institute to, among other things; regulate the training and practice of Administration in public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy within a professional membership framework.  

 As a profession in the centre of attraction and constantly in the mainstream of industrial development, the contributions of professional administration specialisms  to sustain and maintain a robust economy are very crucial and significant. As national development change with a tremendous relative rapidity, so do management and administrative approaches to cope and keep them afloat. It is inconceivable to think of any industrial and economic developments on their own without the contribution  of skilled administrators.  

 In recent years, owing to the complexity of modern economic activity, private and public sectors of the economy increasingly demand professional qualified administrators who are versatile, with a broad business knowledge and administrative ability.

 This demand is fully met by our members who through their sound systematic professional training competence and practical experience are versatile in organizational functions and the toast of every employer of labour.

 

MISSIONS/ OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE

Under the Act that chartered it, The Institute of Administration has the main objective of promoting the science and techniques of management and administration. The act empowers the institute to:

  •            Determine what standards of knowledge and skill are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the profession and improving those standards form time to time as circumstances may permit.

  •             Encourage, advance, and disseminate knowledge, education, practical training and research into the profession.

  •             Conduct examination in the profession and award certificates or diplomas to successful candidates as appropriate.

  •             Formulate exacting standards of competence and conduct, and exercise discipline to uphold the highest ethical standards.

  •             Generally seek to promote its skills for the benefit of industrial and business efficiency, economy and productivity.

ACIA (Associate of Chartered Institute of Administration), an industrially relevant multi-disciplinary professional qualification, with pragmatic and rigorous curricular, is structured to meet the challenges of professional administration in the new millennium and beyond. *          Public Professional Practice

Above all, ACIA empowers members holding valid practicing license issued by the Governing council of the institute to establish their own thriving consultancy firms as Chartered Administrators in public practice in a variety of professional administration specialisms; thus making them employers of labour and not employees of the neighbour.  

Through the enabling act of the institute, it is a serious offence punishable by law for any person irrespective of whatever qualification, to engage himself as a chartered administrator in public professional practice without being a chartered member of the institute holding a valid practicing license issued by Governing council of the institute.

ACCREDITATION/ GRADING

The Federal Ministry of Education has accredited, evaluated and graded both the ACIA Professional Certificate and the Professional Diploma in Business Studies (PDBS). A copy can be gotten from the Federal Ministry of Education (Evaluation /Accreditation Division).
